Water and electronics don't mix. Water damage manifests itself as a darkened screen, inability to charge, and distorted images and sound. Water inside a phone might produce a short circuit, causing the phone or battery to be damaged. Some issues may not manifest themselves for a long time, after components have deteriorated and lost their connectivity. Most phones will feature a visible indicator, such as a red line, to indicate when the phone has been exposed to excessive moisture.
