In the middle of a significant IT systems change, you have come to the conclusion that it won't work unless you shut down everything for a week. The cost to the company would be enormous, and production would be severely delayed. How will you proceed?

Sometimes, you start a project and find out it won't work or will take longer than you anticipated despite your best efforts. You might be able to make the changes without significantly disrupting the business if you rework the plan. It is always a good idea to involve management in what is going on. Most likely, the acceptable use policy (AUP) has no relevance in this situation.
