Attributes refer to specific file-related metadata. System (S), hidden (H), read only (R), and archive (A) are the most commonly used attributes. You can view a list of the others by typing "attrib /?" at a command prompt. To see or add attributes, use the attrib command. For example, to make myfile read-only, type attrib myfile +R. By using the same command but substituting a minus sign for the plus sign, you can remove the read-only attribute. View attributes in the Windows 10/11 GUI by right-clicking a file or folder and choosing Properties. Windows 11 will show a screen similar to the one in the image. By clicking the Advanced button as shown in the image, you can view additional attributes. The CompTIA A+ objectives do not include the attrib command, but they do include file attributes.
