A subdivision inside which users, groups, OUs, and other objects may be placed is the organizational unit (OU). A domain, which is a collection of users and resources under one administrative control, hosts the OU. Active Directory is a piece of software that controls Windows domains. Organizational units are used in Active Directory, typically for security purposes. An individual user's home folder is where they keep their documents and other items, and in a Windows domain, that folder is typically on the domain controller or another server.
