Question:
When a system is operating too slowly, the first thing to worry about is possible malware. If the problem persists after you've made sure there isn't any malware, check the page file size. Virtual memory is stored in the page file. Virtual memory is using a part of a hard drive as if it were RAM. Low memory warnings may be alleviated with a larger paging file, but the trade-off is slower performance because the hard drive operates more slowly than RAM. Search for advanced system settings and choose View advanced system settings to change the amount of hard drive space reserved for virtual memory. Select the Advanced tab on the System Properties window, then click Settings in the Performance box. Select the Advanced tab in the Performance Options window, then click the Change button in the Virtual memory box. Deselect Automatically manage paging file size for all drives, then click Custom size. Enter the appropriate value in the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size (MB) boxes to change the size. Next, click Set. Compared to a magnetic hard drive (HDD), a solid-state drive (SSD) will be faster, but its lifespan may be shortened if it is used for virtual memory. It's better to enhance the physical RAM than virtual memory. This problem wouldn't arise from a too large hard drive.
