While working on a server RAID array, you notice that the drive glowing green, then amber, then off. What does this mean?

Most RAID arrays contain indicator lights that show the status of each drive. These may vary from manufacturer, but anything other than a green light is usually a sign of trouble. Other statuses that the lights may indicate are that the drive is rebuilding, that a rebuild has been aborted, or that the drive is about to fail.
