On your LAN (local area network), devices like your laptop and printer can find and connect with one another thanks to the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) protocol. Unfortunately, malware could spread to other devices on your network by using UPnP. A screened subnet uses one or more routers to create a separate area on a network where servers, like web servers, can be accessed from both the LAN and the Internet. It protects the LAN and offers increased security.
